Logistics market data from Central Dispatch showed that average list prices per mile (PPM) were flat in April from March but continued an annualized decline for the eighth straight month. The average listed PPM was unchanged at $1.05 from March but off 3.7% from April 2024. The price of #2 Diesel declined 2.2% in April to $3.51 per gallon from $3.59 in March. Since last April, #2 Diesel has declined 11.0%.

In April 2025, the average distance for a move was 1,026 miles, up 12.4% vs. the same month last year. If we measure against March 2025, average mileage for a vehicle transported jumped 10.2%.
Looking a bit deeper…
Looking at the underlying factors, the share of shipment by trailer type reverted to February’s mix with Open trailers remaining the most used segment in March at 94.7%. Trailer types saw increased mileage changes, all to the upside. Open trailers experienced a 10.8% longer distance in April from March, while Enclosed saw a modest rise of 1.0% over the last month. Analyzing moves by the size of vehicle transported the data indicated mixed PPM across vehicles. Extra-large and Large saw increases of 29.5% and 7.8%, respectively. Medium was down 0.9% while Small was off by 2.1%. Regarding distance hauled, Extra-large declined 14.6% from March, Large was down 1.3%, though Medium was up 18.8%, and Small increased 12.8%.
